Australian government puts public pressure on the US and the UK to free Julian Assange but, is there anything else than a propagandistic effort of virtue signalling staged by the “progressive” forces of Australia?
Australian federal MPs – including the prime minister and cabinet members – have voted overwhelmingly to urge the US and the UK to allow the WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange to return to Australia.
Anthony Albanese’s government has repeatedly said that “enough is enough” and that it is time for the Assange matter to be “brought to a conclusion”.
The motion on Wednesday removed the ambiguity about what that conclusion should entail: allowing him back to Australia.
Nevertheless discussions about the matter between Australian and US representatives are considered “a private matter”, it’s unknown and unlikely that the Australian government would take any actual measures of pressure other than words that the wind blows away.
